Roofs from the Heart Provides Full Roof Replacement to Newark Resident with Support from GAF, Laffey-McHugh

Newark, DE – Roofs from the Heart (RFTH) announced today the completion of a full roof replacement for a Newark resident. This critical project was made possible through the generous contributions from the congregation of a local church, Laffey-McHugh Foundation, and one of our most loyal contributors, GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer.

The project’s recipient is a kind, compassionate, and charitable leader and his family, of a local church. As a hardworking and strong-willed man, he has always been accustomed to caring for others rather than receiving assistance himself. He endured a 14-year battle with a severe illness that left doctors uncertain of his recovery for many years. After countless treatments, procedures, and infusions, his health gradually improved. Over time, his strength returned until, against all odds, his illness fully subsided.

His roof has fallen into disrepair, and because of health limitations, he was unable to take on the work
personally. His home is in desperate need of a full roofing system. Without the financial means to make repairs, the homeowner was referred to RFTH by a close friend. G. Fedale Roofing and Siding identified additional critical repairs, due to inadequate venting, deterioration,
and lack of water drainage systems. Upon inspection, RFTH Executive Director Kate Domanski mobilized key partners to address the urgent needs. Roofs from the Heart covered labor and installation costs through an award from the Laffey-McHugh Foundation in addition to the degives.org fundraising campaign that was done on the homeowner’s behalf.

G. Fedale Roofing and Siding provided contractor services at a discounted rate. GAF donated roofing materials. The new roofing system and repairs will substantially reduce health risks associated with moisture and mold, improve air quality, and protect the home against future damage. The collaboration demonstrated the impact of community organizations working together to address housing needs for elderly and limited-income residents.

Founded by G. Fedale Roofing and Siding, Roofs from the Heart received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in July 2023 and has since focused on helping underserved Delaware communities maintain safe housing. The organization’s mission is to provide quality new roofs to those unable to maintain safe and secure shelter, with the goal of keeping families healthy and in their homes.

The project was part of GAF’s social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which focuses on
leveraging roofing expertise, resources, and products to build resilient communities.

About Roofs from the Heart– Roofs from the Heart has a roof replacement program for individual families in need of roof replacement as well as collaborates with many other home emergency repair organizations for roof repair and replacement. They feel the roof is just as important as the structure of the home, and many do not have the means to sustain their dire home repairs. Roofs from the Heart goals are to create safe and secure homes, reduce health risks, increase energy efficiency, and improve neighborhood and communities. They work in low- to-moderate income households, focusing on disadvantaged and underserved populations.
